About UsOur History
In 1986, South African media company Naspers (along with several other South African media businesses) formed a pay television company called M-Net. In October 1993, M-Net was divided into two companies – one dealing with the delivery of entertainment channels, the other oversaw subscriber management, signal distribution, and cellphone operations.
MultiChoice South Africa grew out as the subscriber management arm and has been quietly getting on with the business of bringing you world-class entertainment.

Through our high level manufacturing and assembly chain, we’ve stimulated the decoder manufacturing industry and as well as other related businesses such as parts suppliers, carton printers and distribution and logistics providers.Community TV broadcasters
Several community TV stations are broadcast on the DStv platform including Soweto TV, 1 KZN, Cape Town TV, Tshwane TV and Bay TV
Local Content
Local Content
Our focus at M-Net has been on increasing both the volume and budget of local productions. M-Net and MultiChoice spent R1,7 billion on local content, which translates into more work for writers, actors, producers, directors, camera operators, editing staff and greater empowerment year-on-year.
Sports InvestmentSports Investment
SuperSport sources content from federations and license holders, and also funds sports development across Africa. During the past financial year, we spent R1,2bn on local sports content.
SuperSport packages this content into complete channels, for broadcasting by companies such as MultiChoice.
SuperSport is a partner to eight African leagues which previously never had TV coverage or even administrative support. Thanks to our partnership with them, the PSL (Premier Soccer League) is now in the top 10 most successful leagues in the world!

DStv Agencies and Accredited InstallersDStv Agencies and Accredited Installers
MultiChoice supports around 130 independent DStv agencies and a network of 1 302 Accredited DStv Installers (that’s a total of around 4 000 people employed).
Johnny Banda used to instal satellite dishes as a MultiChoice employee. Today he owns three DStv Agencies, which service customers across Gauteng. He currently employs more than 60 people.

Through the Let’s Play initiative, SuperSport aims to encourage and support young children from across Africa to be physically active, and provides opportunities for play through the provision of equipment and facilities.
Diski Challenge
The MultiChoice Diski Challenge is a youth development programme that includes a football tournament for the Premier Soccer League (PSL) clubs; life skills and leadership development for players; an internship programme to develop broadcasting skills as well as the chance for community stations on DStv to broadcast Diski matches.
M-Net Magic in Motion
The M-Net Magic in Motion Academy aims to develop up-and-coming filmmakers through an extensive internship programme.
