MultiChoice Make A Difference (MMAD)
MultiChoice Make A Difference is a programme that has been created to enable employees to contribute their time and skills towards charity organisations and/or causes that they are most passionate about.
2009 saw a new element added to the MMAD Winter Warmer campaign, where a lucky employee had a chance to nominate a charity for a donation of R25 000.00 by MultiChoice.
The charity chosen was The Good Start Foundation, Nominated by Diana Caulton of the DMTv division at MultiChoice.
The Good Start Foundation was started in 2009 by a group of young professionals concerned with the growing numbers of orphaned and abandoned babies and children in South Africa.
The Foundation aims to use their collective skills (medical, legal, accounting, finance and business) to raise funds, both locally and internationally, for the many community based organisations that are doing a sterling job in dealing with the orphan crisis. These organisations sometimes, however, lack access to the resources they require to run their many projects. Since the Good Start Foundation is run entirely by volunteers, costs are kept to the very minimum with all funds being collected distributed directly to community based organisations or an endowment fund, to ensure sustainable funding.
The Good Start Foundation will be donating the proceeds to New Beginnings Haven for abandoned babies and the Tshwane Place of Safety.
MultiChoice’s MMAD volunteerism programme cooks-up a storm!
MultiChoice’s executive team with CEO Nico Meyer, kicked off the team challenge and chose the African Children Feeding Scheme in Alexander for their MMAD project. The executive team set a great example for the rest of MultiChoice’s MMAD projects, as they got stuck into cooking a special lunch and fed over 50 children at the ACFS crèche, who normally would only receive bread and milk.
The MultiChoice executive team also supplied the feeding Center with two stoves, a fridge and improved the plumbing (also sponsored by its contracted plumbers, Pipe Clear).
Since MMAD’s team challenge inception (Itu, could you pse advise what year we are using), over 1000 employees have pitched in to help with their MMAD projects; ranging from cleaning cages at animal shelters, building homes from charitable donations, to Christmas parties for underprivileged children.
“We choose to implement our Corporate Social Investment in the most holistic way possible - by not limiting it to a single department within MultiChoice. We provide practical opportunities for our employees, our suppliers, and our customers to get involved,” says MultiChoice’s General Manager -Corporate Affairs, Jackie Rakitla.

2009 has been a tremendously successful MMAD year! The “MultiChoice Makes a Difference” initiative has made a positive difference to the lives of the following worthy initiatives:-
MultiChoice’s Content department chose the Community Organisation Jordan House in Westbury Johannesburg for their MMAD project. Jordan House provides a Frail and HIV/AIDS Centre to 90 patients. The 12 content team members all got stuck into general plumbing, handy-work and treated the patients to a tea party.
Our Marketing department headed out to Northcliff and supported a community organisation called “Marang House”, who look after 10 chronically ill children. Various appliances were donated to the home by MultiChoice’s Marketing departments suppliers.
Philena Primary School in Olivenhout, with 1477 school children was the charity chosen by MultiChoice’s Finance department. The 60 member team assisted with the improvement of security around the school, painting, furniture repairs and fittings.
Our colleagues from Cape Town Customer Care, chose Victory Outreach, Hanover Park, a drug rehabilitation centre looking after approx 60 people. The team purchased a washing machine for the centre, did general painting and decorating of the kitchen and dining area, supplied cutlery and crockery for the kitchen and generously supplied food and toiletries.
