DStv Enable Subscribers to give back.
The DStv Care More customer initiative allows subscribers to get involved in community development by nominating a community project of their choice either via SMS, or through the DStv website or at branches.
Dereck Buckley, the DStv subscriber whose community project was selected in this round, says “I have been supporting the Girls and Boys Town charity for the past twenty years. They are doing a fantastic job of educating the children in their care to become future leader. I believe that they are very deserving of these funds that can be used to further educate these children.”
Girls and Boys Town focuses on children ‘at-risk’ and families in difficulty by providing aid to youth, families and communities through various workshops and programmes. Their mission is to create opportunities for youth to grow and develop into responsible citizens that are able to contribute to family and community life in the spirit of peace, dignity, tolerance, equality and solidarity with others.
Ms Lee Loynes, the CEO of Girls and Boys Town South Africa says,” We are overjoyed and felt truly blessed when we received news of the R200 000 worth of assistance from DStv. We are sincerely grateful to both Mr. Derrick Buckley for his nomination and DSTV for identifying Girls and Boys Town as the beneficiary.”
The assistance package consists of refurbishment for the home housing the children, as well as for implementing the Educational Learning Support Units for the youth in place at the Family Homes in the Community.
DStv subscribers will be getting another opportunity to get involved in the development of their community. The third round of the Care More initiatives will run from 15 February to 7 March 2012. Subscribers will be able to nominate a community project of their choice to receive an assistance package to the value of R200 000 via SMS, on the DStv website or at via entry forms at MultiChoice branches. To SMS, subscribers have to send the word care and the name of the charity to 32512.
Itumeleng Letebele, Corporate Social Investment Manager at MultiChoice says, “Over the years we have seen a variety of community organisations positively impacted by the support and generosity of our subscribers. We believe that the Care More customer initiative is another way for DStv and its subscribers to give back to our communities in need.”
