DStv promotes a greener future

DStv has planted 5000 trees in disadvantaged communities across South Africa. The project which was initiated in 2011 saw various households and schools across the country receiving fruit and indigenous trees from DStv to promote a greener environment for the future.

The project which is implemented together with the Food and Trees for African Organisation also provided 22 community members with temporary employment. Community members assist in monitoring the care and development of the trees at households for a period of six months.

“DStv is committed to creating greater awareness of sustainable green living. It has chosen to work with the Food and Trees for Africa programme to create greater awareness of our impact on the environment and about the benefits of greener living in communities across South Africa”, say Itumeleng Letebele, Corporate Social Investment manager at MultiChoice South Africa.

Joanne Lee Rolt, Programme Manager at FTFA says, “The planting of trees at households and schools assists the communities in providing a greener and richer environment as well as provides support in terms of food security in respect of the fruit trees. This would not be possible without the involvement and partnerships of companies such as DStv.”

According to Letebele, “the plant a tree initiative is one of many programmes implemented by DStv that has a direct impact on our communities and customers. DStv aims to create greater awareness of environmental sustainability amongst its subscribers and the communities in which it operates.”

This year DStv will be working with communities to plant an additional 5000 trees- which will bring the overall number of trees planted to 10 000.
