Soweto children’s centre receives assistance worth R200 000 from DStv
DStv Care More offers DStv subscribers the chance to participate in community development by nominating their favourite community project to receive much needed assistance. Ayanda Khubeka from Winchester Hills is the DStv subscriber who nominated the centre. She is also the centre manager, “It is exciting to know that through these funds we will meet our needs and reach out to more people than before”.
Rena Le Lona Creative Centre for Children is a non-profit organisation that provides support for orphaned and vulnerable children. The centre provides an afterschool care facility and also actively involves the children in sports and the arts to help them to deal with the challenges that they face on a day to day basis. There are currently 138 children from 18 different schools in and around Soweto and most of them are referred by schools in the area.
The assistance package from DStv will include the renovation of the ballet studio, supplies for the art studio as well as equipment and repairs for the playground..
Another round of DStv Care More will run from 25 June to 23 July 2012. Subscribers will once again be able to nominate a community project of their choice to receive an assistance package to the value of R200 000 via SMS, website or using entry forms at MultiChoice customer service branches. Subscribers can SMS the word ‘CARE’ and the name of the community project they wish to nominate to 32512 during this time.
